Historic Mackinac(Makinaw) Island

The players in Michigan's early history were Jesuit priests, French fur traders, native American Indians, British military men, and American adventurers.
Explorers first came to this region attracted by man's natural curiosity to know what is beyond the next river bend or over the hill on the horizon.  Of course, the dreams of riches and glory were also motivating factors in getting explorers to push themselves and their followers to the extremes of physical hardship and danger.
